A group project completed for a world building module in 3rd year of college. The project surrounded our depiction of Russian mining town Mirny in a dystopian future scenario. We decided on a setting whereby the large hole in the earth where the mine was has been covered over by a dome and transformed into a redeveloped area for the wealthy to live and avoid the pollution of the outside world. The poorer people in society live outside the dome and work in the day to day upkeep of the mine area.
I was mostly involved in the digital elements of the project such as 3D printing, CAD drawings and creating models for the Unity environment. Myself and one other from the group created the digital environment. Then everyone was involved in the creation of the physical model. The majority of the model was created using workshop tools. The dome was made to be removable so the inside of the dome could be seen clearly. Small lights were placed around the inside of the dome to enhance the impact of the model.
The main softwares used were 3DS Max Substance Painter and Unity.
We created the majority of the digital assets ourselves and used a couple of small models the Sketchfab to enhance areas of the environment.
